ABOUT | Unbound Frequencies
Artist Beth Giacummo, captivated by the emotive essence and fleeting allure of marine life, brings her vision to life through this interactive interpretation represented by inflatable forms. This site-specific large-scale installation bathes in a spectrum of colored light, pulsating rhythms, and projected imagery, fostering a sense of familiarity and interconnectedness.
The undulating organic shapes mirror the ebb and flow of the waters and rhythmic dance of the sea life that surround Long Island. Much like the transient nature of life these organic contours come alive, immersing and engaging the viewer into a realm of belonging.
Nobel Prize laureate, art historian, and mystic Romain Rolland described a profound feeling of being connected with the world as a whole as “sans bornes perceptibles, et comme océanique” (without perceptible limits, and as if oceanic) or an “oceanic feeling”. Just as the sea life communicates to us through gravitational currents and waves (or frequencies) our response activates through the feeling of unity and connectedness. This harmonious flow is welcoming, not overwhelming, instilling the sensation of being unbound, or without limits.
The translation and interpretation of the emotive qualities illuminate the inner self through ethereal aquatic hues, guiding viewers on a journey
or self, and life. Each piece becomes a conduit for sensory exploration, evoking the essence and overall sensation of the oceanic sentiment meticulously envisioned by the artist. Video fragments extracted from the sea current radiate energy fields, exchanging of vibrational frequencies to bring a sensation of the highest connection to universal life - Unbound Frequencies.
